The 2024 Collingwood Wheelchair Presentation Night is happening tonight at the AIA Vitality Centre. This marks the end of the wheelchair football season.

The night was a party for both of our Collingwood Magpies Wheelchair Football Teams in a year to remember. In 2024, both the Community Wheelchair Football Team (CWFL) and the Victorian Wheelchair Football Team (VWFL) finished as Grand Finalists.

The Magpies finished their 2024 VWFL season as runner-ups in the Robert Rose Cup Grand Final. They still had a lot to show.

The 2024 Community Wheelchair Football League Premiers, on the other hand, were the real stars.

In August, the CWFL Magpies played on the big stage against the Tigers as the “David” in a fight between the “Goliaths.” It was one of the best games of the season.

The CWFL Magpies beat Richmond, which had never lost a game, in their first-ever Grand Final. Collingwood came in third on the ladder and had the longest trip to the finish line, so the win showed how strong and determined they were. The 2024 CWFL Best & Fairest award went to defender Brad Axford. It was the biggest honor of the night.

In his first season with the team, the star defender got better and better. In the 2024 CWFL Grand Final, he won both the Best & Fairest Award and the Best on Ground Award.

One of the most important parts of the 21-point win over Richmond, where he had an amazing game against the league’s top scoring team.

It was impossible for the Tigers’ attack to get through the wall of Axford, Matthew Blunt, and Tim O’Connor. But it was when Axford, who normally plays defense, was moved to the front line and scored a great goal at the end of the season that made him truly “best on.”
