Manchester United and Barnsley square off in the Carabao Cup third round tonight at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils’ victory over Southampton last weekend ended their two-game losing streak. They climbed back up to the top half of the Premier League standings with a commanding 3-0 victory.

United’s manager, Erik ten Hag, will hope to maintain the momentum against Barnsley. Ten Hag might not change the starting lineup even though the team is unquestionably the favorite to defeat the League One squad.

This is the formation: 4-2-3-1.

Anticipated lineup:

Altay Bayindir played for the Red Devils just once last season, but Ten Hag decided to stick with Andre Onana in goal. The Turkey international is going to compete for the starting goalie spot.

Diogo Dalot is anticipated to start in front of him at right back. The Portuguese player, who has had a mixed season so far, may start today against the Tykes in his preferred spot.

In central defense, Harry Maguire and Jonny Evans could share the field as Lisandro Martinez and Matthijs de Ligt are rested. Harry Amass may make his United debut at left back.

Manuel Ugarte had the perfect opportunity to lead United from the middle of the pitch at the beginning of the game.

Casemiro was dropped off the starting lineup after his awful performance against Liverpool. The Brazilian showed off his skill on Saturday by coming off the bench and providing an important assist that led to Alejandro Garnacho’s goal.

The 32-year-old will most likely be positioned in the middle of the midfield alongside Ugarte.

Going forward, Garnacho is expected to start after making yet another great impact off the bench.

The Argentine played second fiddle to Amad Diallo the last time. Antony is likely to start on the left wing tonight because he is getting a unique opportunity on the right side of United’s assault.

When De Ligt was seen to be experiencing cramps near the end of the game, Ten Hag made the decision to change Casemiro for Antony, who was scheduled to play at St Mary’s.

Bruno Fernandes typically gets the start for United, regardless of the opposition. The captain is expected to start with Joshua Zirkzee up front at position 10.

Zirkzee has had a couple of tough games where he should have scored. The Dutchman needs to find the back of the net. A goal against Barnsley can boost his confidence.
